Changes and Upgrades to Colorado and Utah Ski Areas for 2026/27

If you're looking ahead to the 2026–27 season, the biggest projects are in Utah, while Colorado's pipeline is more lift-focused than terrain-expansion focused.

Colorado's Most Notable 2026–27 Upgrades

Snowmass

  • New Alpine Springs Express detachable six-pack chair planned for 2026.

  • Improves access to the high-alpine terrain and reduces bottlenecks in the Elk Camp/Alpine Springs area.

Copper Mountain

  • New Lumberjack Express high-speed six-pack scheduled for 2026.

  • Primarily aimed at increasing uphill capacity and reducing wait times in a heavily used pod.

Powderhorn Mountain Resort

  • Installing the Wild West Express detachable quad for 2026.

  • One of the more meaningful upgrades for western Colorado skiers because it modernizes a key lift and improves mountain circulation.

Aspen Mountain

  • Planned Shadow Mountain high-speed quad replacement.


Recent Terrain Expansion Already Open

The largest Colorado terrain story actually happened for 2025–26:

  • Monarch Mountain opened No Name Basin, adding roughly 377 acres and 10–12 new runs served by a new lift. If you haven't skied Monarch recently, this is arguably Colorado's most significant new terrain addition in years.


Utah: The Big Winner for 2026–27

This is the largest ski expansion project in North America right now.

For the 2025–26 and 2026–27 buildout phases:

  • More than 4,300 skiable acres.

  • 10 new chairlifts plus a 10-passenger gondola.

  • New East Village base area.

  • Dozens of new trails and major infrastructure investments.

  • Resort size roughly doubles from its historical footprint.

Park City Mountain Resort

Pending approvals, 2026 construction is expected to include:

  • New Canyons Village gondola.

  • New Silverlode Express 8-pack (Utah's first 8-seat chair).

  • Additional lift upgrades to improve circulation between major pods.

Powder Mountain

  • New Foxtrot lift.

  • Additional terrain and infrastructure tied to the resort's ongoing transformation and expansion.

  • A separate project will unlock roughly 1,000 acres of steep expert terrain through a new lift-served zone.

Sundance Mountain Resort

  • Expansion plans include more than 100 acres of new terrain for the 2026–27 season.

  • New high-speed quad planned to serve the expansion area.
